While August public school cleanup days have become somewhat of a tradition in the Portland area, Pastor Gabe Kolstad of his Westside Community Church, along with his congregation, wanted to do something more. Partnering with the City of Beaverton and other local area non-profits, they are leading the "Good Neighbor Project" on Sunday, August 24th.

Feeding Portland's Hungry for 23 Years
Potluck in the Park has been serving a free hot meal to anyone in need - no questions asked - since 1991. Every Sunday, rain or shine, 52 weeks a year, they're providing a hot meal in downtown Portland's O'Bryant Park. Thanks to wonderful volunteers, every Sunday a public park becomes a community of those wishing to serve anyone in need.

A Service of Hope and Healing
First came disbelief. Then the harsh reality. A week of frantic activity. This all too familiar scene played out once again at Reynolds High School on June 10, the day before school ended for the summer. The events on that Tuesday had left two young men dead, hundreds of other students and their families shaken, and the staff of both high school and the Reynolds District stretched to their limits. If there was ever an opportunity for SPN to make a difference, this was the time.

Church Planter Sees Value in School Partnership
Last week a church planter from Kelso asked to meet with SPN in anticipation of a launching their new work this fall in a middle school. Jon and Susan Donohue from Longview, Washington have been commissioned to launch a new campus in the neighboring city of Kelso. The Donohue's have been in communication with the staff of a middle school where they will begin holding services in September. They are anxiously waiting for this launch and want to make sure they have covered in advance.
