A Singular Honor

Those of us in the Greater Portland-Vancouver Metro Area are blessed to be served by a number of extremely capable school Superintendents. Those who lead the 29 districts within our area are talented educators, skilled administrators, and true assets within our larger community.

One of those leaders is Dr. Steven Webb of Vancouver Public Schools. He was recently honored as Washington State's Superintendent of the Year. This annual award recognizes the outstanding leadership of active, front-line superintendents. Dr Webb has led efforts within his district to increase program choices in grades K-12, expand school-community partnerships, and helped personalize education through the use of one-to-one technology. Dr. Webb worked with SPN two years ago to bring together the principals of his district with local area pastors. That "faith-based gathering" is now an annual event, with a growing participation of churches and schools in the Vancouver area who are actively at work, building and strengthening relationships.

"I can't do this work alone," Dr. Webb remarked in a discussion with SPN Director Larry Whittlesey, and LPA President Kevin Palau. "We've got an amazingly talented team committed to kids first. Rock stars! My job is to create a culture where each employee can act with focus and coherency to advance our strategic vision to transform student trajectories. I'm proud of the progress we've made and inspired by our entire VPS family."

Dr. Webb went on to comment on SPN's role in helping to develop and grow church-school partnerships in his district. "We're so blessed to have these partnerships supporting kids and family. Know that your leadership is valued and appreciated."

We congratulate Dr. Webb on this singular honor and look forward to continuing to work with him and his team in the Vancouver Public Schools and with the churches serving alongside of them.
