There is an incredible sense of momentum for the work of SPN spreading throughout our community. This has become especially evident in a series of meetings that have brought together District Superintendents and their Principals with local area Pastors. The three most recent such gatherings all took place within in last month, first in Battleground, and then in the North Clackamas and Parkrose districts. At these high energy meetings local faith leaders sit across the table from school site administrators to discuss how they might better work together to serve families in the surrounding community. The District Superintendents and other district personnel present the current pressing needs of the district, and Larry Whittlesey outlines the focus for the work of SPN.
The end result of these gatherings is measured by the friendships that are made or cultivated, new partnerships that are created, and the positive reinforcement of the need for such collaborative efforts. Similar meetings are scheduled or being scheduled for the Reynolds School District (May 2nd), the Gladstone district (May 9th), and with Portland Public Schools and the Gresham –Barlow school district (dates TBD). It is our hope to continue to reach out to other school districts to coordinate similar meetings in the fall of 2013.
