Packed with Love does it again!

On Saturday, August 8th, Love INC, local churches, and community partners celebrated the Packed With Love school supply event for the 9th straight year. Thousands of spiral notebooks, pencils, pens of all colors, binders, glue sticks, backpacks, binders, folders, and all kinds of supplies were sorted during the week before the event. Volunteers of all ages collected supplies from local churches and staged them at Aloha High School.

While this is not the only "school supply" drive in the metro area, the "Packed with Love" event is one of the oldest and largest such events in our area. This year they hosted over 600 students and families, served over 600 hot dogs, and provided school supplies to over 340 students to start the year.

Before wrapping up the event, volunteers packed hundreds of backpacks full of the needed tools to be distributed to local middle and high school administrators and counselors in the coming weeks. These will be available for students who missed PWL.

Over 110 volunteers served at Packed With Love! The carnival and food created an atmosphere of celebration and community. Asked to summarize the "Packed With Love" experience, one of the key leaders said,

"It is the church saying, 'We see you. We love you. Jesus is here -- present among us.'"

School supply drives and school grounds cleanups are amongst the easiest ways for a church to get involved in their local school districts. If you want to know how to get involved, why not ask one of the organizations highlighted in this newsletter to learn from their expertise. We're excited to bring you stories about partners like Love INC and Packed With Love. Let's show the community around us that we do "see them," "love them," and are "here to help."
