Pastor George Merriweather on Tackling Portland's Gang Violence Together

Pastor George Merriweather saw an ingrained problem in his community, and is fighting against it. As a pastor in Northeast Portland, Merriweather was no stranger to the tough reality of street and gang violence. Pastor Merriweather decided to look beyond the walls of his church and looked to combat gang violence in anyway he could. To begin dealing with the issue, Merriweather and five local pastors decided to form 11:45, a coalition of churches and community members dedicated to ebbing away the harsh effects of gangs in North and Northeast Portland. 11:45 promises to be There, to Care, to Share, and to unite in Prayer for Portland's gangs.

By defining key areas to work on, Merriweather and his fellow pastors are working hard to be a presence in their community. Watch George Merriweather explain it himself below.
