Rose Schnitzer Tower, a low-income apartment building in downtown Portland, is home to 235 people. Most are seniors, many are living with disabilities, and some don’t speak English. But in spite of language and other barriers, this past December the common areas of “the Rose” rang out with laughter, conversation, and the sound of people enjoying a hearty meal.
More than just food, HOTEL Ministry’s program equips churches to form relationships with the residents of these communities, inspiring family and fellowship where it’s needed most. For example, in order to reach out to the Rose’s non-English-speaking residents, Crossroads partnered with groups of Russian and Chinese speakers.
Crossroads is one of many churches utilizing HOTEL Ministry’s resources and know-how to serve these communities. A Jesus Church, New Life Foursquare, Pearl Church, River West Church, and Village Community Church all have teams serving one or more of the ten outreach sites.
The Ministry is currently hoping to add more teams and volunteers. Learn how your church can get involved here.
