GOOD NEIGHBOR PROJECT Sponsored by Westside Community Church

The Good Neighbor Project is a one day event focused on uniting people by doing a variety of service projects in local Portland-area communities. Each year, businesses, community members, churches and neighbors join together to do a variety of projects. The focus is especially on local schools.

For those that are not familiar with Good Neighbor Project, check out this video from the 2015 event:

This year’s event started at 9:00am with a Jumbo Rally at Aloha High joined by Beaverton's Mayor, Denny Doyle, and other local leaders. From there, the teams headed out to serve in a variety of 14 exciting projects.

One such example is Metzger Elementary. There is never ending help needed at Metzger. Westside is committed to make a difference at this underserved school. This year, they took on these projects:

  • 2 classroom moves

  • Painting 2 portable classrooms

  • Landscape cleanup

  • Pressure Washing

  • Window Washing

  • Kindergarten Packet Assembly

  • Distribution of new curriculum/books to classrooms

  • Portable Gutter Repairs

  • Memory Book Binders (one classroom)

  • Ongoing support on 8/30 and 8/31 with the back to school BBQ serving the entire student and family population.

And this is just one of the 14 locations blessed by the Good Neighbor project this year! We commend Pastor Gabe Kolstad and Westside Community Church, plus the volunteers who joined them from throughout the area, for their commitment to be a “good neighbor.” May others follow their example and bless the communities they live in.
