Timbers Army Joins with DHS, Embrace Oregon and Hillsboro Church
Embrace Oregon has been known for doing wonderful makeovers of DHS buildings in the past and their efforts caught the attention of Keith Palau, a member of the Community Outreach Team for the Timbers Army. He had heard about previously-remodeled rooms with a Timbers theme and decided to try to bring the Timber’s Army together along with Embrace Oregon and Colossae Church (located nearby Hillsboro DHS) to do a major renovation of the Family Visitation Room at the Hillsboro DHS office. Together the groups planned and executed the project with the help of key community partners including La-Z-Boy Furniture, Chick-fil-A Tanasbourne, and the Portland Timbers, with star player Diego Valeri and his wife taking a personal role in the makeover.

The room will be used for parents and families with children currently in foster care to have a comforting environment for official supervised visitation time.  Also, the space will be utilized as a safe, welcoming and fun environment for children who have been removed from a challenging domestic situation to await placement in a new home.

DHS was involved from the beginning, with Regina Carpenter leading the charge for WA County DHS.  The staff who supervise visits have been blown away by what they’ve seen of the room, and are eager to begin using it this month. The Timbers Army, along with Embrace Oregon and Colossae Church look forward to hearing stories from the staff of the future impact this room will have on kids and families.
