The Family Room
The mission at The Family Room is to provide a homelike visitation setting for children living in foster care to spend time with their birth-parents.  The program aims to increase both the quantity and quality of supervised time families spend together. The goal is to reunite children with their birth parents in a safe, expedient, and sustainable approach.

Church works to transform DHS
River West Church is seeking to transform a local DHS office to be a place where kids are loved and cared for. So far, the church has transformed ten visitation rooms with bright colors on the walls and comfy couches to sink into, and created more than 400 welcome boxes with a handwritten note to give children a comforting presence as they step into uncertainty.

Extreme Makeover for the Kids

This year, Portland-area churches gave a gift to help improve nine DHS child welfare offices in Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas counties.  These “DHS makeovers” focused specifically on the visitation rooms where children visit with their families on a weekly basis. What was a dismal and shabby space is now beautiful and hopeful, communicating their worth to our community.
